Greens on QPRC will work to protect our native species

Queanbeyan-Palerang

Our native wildlife and ecosystems are under pressure from expanding towns, climate change, invasive species and feral animals.

QPRC has started to address this by requiring companion cats to be kept indoors in new housing areas at Googong and Jumping Creek Estate (Queanbeyan) and is looking at other areas.

With housing expanding in grasslands and woodlands, it’s important that cat containment is expanded initially to other particularly sensitive areas close to reserves and eventually, across our local government area.

Greens on QPRC will work for the phasing in of this policy to protect our diverse wildlife species. It’s important residents understand why this action is needed and are supported to accommodate their pets in their homes.
