I’m Olivia Barlow. I’m so excited to be your Greens candidate for the Inner West Council elections in the Midjuburi (Marrickville) Ward this September.

I love living in the Inner West, and I’m running for Council because I believe real political change starts local. I’m a young renter, and it’s about time that our area was shaped by people like me and you, not developers and property moguls. Our community knows what’s best for the Inner West, and I’m ready to do the work to make Midjuburi a fairer place to live.

With years of community organising experience, I’ve heard from many members of our community who are struggling to make ends meet, keep a roof over their heads, or even being forced to move out of the Inner West because they can no longer afford the cost of living here.

Our community is concerned about the impacts of climate change, like heat waves and flash flooding, on our local area. People feel overwhelmed, hopeless and unheard.

I’m ready to act for them. By collaborating with our community our Council can take decisive action on climate and the cost of living that preserves the community we know and love.

Together, we can protect our rivers, open green spaces and local heritage, ensure universal community access to community facilities like libraries, parks and public transport, all while expanding our options for public and affordable housing and protecting the most vulnerable members of our community.

On Council, I will balance development, protecting local services, and taking action on the issues that affect us all. By genuinely listening to residents our Council can build a progressive Inner West that represents what our community needs and wants.

The Greens have a plan to empower our community and make the Inner West an even better place to live.
