I’m running for Council because I’m passionate about the community having earlier and better informed input to developments in our area. Our planning decisions need to put people before profits and protect our environment for the future.
I’ve lived on a small rural property outside Kurri for the last 27 years. I’ve been a key member of local environmental groups and fought to stop Sydney’s waste being dumped in the Bloomfield mine void. I’m a long-term community representative on the Bloomfield and Buttai Quarry consultative committees, raising issues and keeping residents informed.
I was President of Kurri Preschool Management Committee when our two children attended. I later worked there, gaining grants to improve facilities, managing resulting projects and advocating for improvements to Early Childhood Education.
I have volunteered on various P&C committees for 15 years, including overseeing the refurbishment of the canteen kitchen and adoption of the Healthy School Canteens Strategy.
I trained as a chemical engineer with BHP, where I became the first woman to manage blast furnace iron-making. When making decisions, I am committed to collecting and analysing all the relevant data to ensure the best outcome, then communicating that decision clearly to all involved.
I want the best outcomes for residents of Cessnock, particularly children and young people. I want Council to be more focused on the future and accountable to ratepayers through open and transparent decisions.
