The Northwest Area of New South Wales, encompassing Marsden Park, Schofields, Rouse Hill, and Kellyville North and surrounding areas has seen remarkable growth in recent years. This rapid expansion has promised modern infrastructure and enhanced quality of life, yet it has also uncovered significant challenges—chief among them being transportation.

Marsden Park: A Suburb in Crisis
Marsden Park exemplifies the issues faced by many fast-growing suburbs in NSW. Urban development has surged ahead of the planning and implementation of essential infrastructure, leading to a severe transport crisis. While new homes, schools, and shopping centres have rapidly emerged, the transport infrastructure has lagged far behind, resulting in significant difficulties for residents, particularly during peak hours.

    The Parking Predicament
The most pressing issue is the severe lack of parking at train and Metro stations. As the population has increased, so too has the demand for parking spaces. Unfortunately, there has been no corresponding increase in available parking, forcing residents to park illegally or far from stations—an unsafe and inconvenient situation. The lack of parking contributes to increased stress and negatively impacts the mental well-being of residents, who often face lengthy searches for a spot, affecting their daily routines and family time.

    The Public Transport Dilemma
Public transport in Marsden Park and surrounding areas is equally problematic. The limited and poorly designed bus routes fail to connect residents to key areas effectively, exacerbating reliance on cars and putting additional pressure on already congested roads. The absence of direct or express bus routes means many residents face long commutes, which disrupt work-life balance and contribute to increased stress and fatigue.

    Environmental Impact
Additionally, the reliance on cars due to poor public transport options leads to increased traffic congestion and air pollution, undermining the NSW government’s goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development.

    The Human Cost
The transport crisis significantly impacts the mental and physical well-being of residents. The stress of finding parking and dealing with unreliable public transport is leading to increased anxiety and frustration. Families are struggling to spend quality time together due to the time lost in commuting, and vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and people with disabilities, are disproportionately affected by the lack of accessible transport options.

    The Call for Action
Immediate and comprehensive action is required to address these transport challenges. The proposed solutions include:

Expansion of Parking Facilities: Construct multi-level parking structures at key transport hubs and implement clear parking regulations to resolve conflicts between residents and commuters. Introduce park-and-ride facilities to alleviate parking pressures at stations.

Improvements to Public Transport: Increase the number of bus routes, particularly direct and express routes, connecting residents to major destinations. Enhance the frequency and reliability of bus services to reduce waiting times and ensure timely operations.

Sustainable Development: Commit to planning and implementing transport infrastructure that supports sustainable growth and reduces reliance on cars, aligning with environmental goals.

We urge local and state authorities to prioritize these issues and take swift action to improve the transport infrastructure in North West Sydney suburbs. The well-being of thousands of residents and the future growth of the region depend on it. Thank you for your support and commitment to making our communities better places to live.

    Tackling the Housing Crisis

The housing crisis is breaking people, and governments at all levels are tinkering around the edges instead of making the big changes we need to address housing affordability.
