Carol Sparks

Councillor for Glen Innes Severn Shire

I have lived and worked in the Glen Innes-Severn for over 25 years and will support the community as a whole. I am a Registered Nurse, midwife, and aged care worker. I am an activist; protecting endangered species habitats and waterways is my passion.

As an artist I am involved in local community arts project and groups. I have contributed to local town clean-ups and have lobbied council for more public syringe containers, rubbish and recycling bins. I support the youth of our towns and encourage education and training for all ages at Tafe. I encourage and support Council in any action to reduce emissions and reduce landfill by recycling and gardening and growing our own food. I support our local school by volunteering in the permaculture garden.
I support Attract Connect and Stay, a community driven project that encourages health professionals to come live, work and play in our beautiful community. Rural towns and communities suffer through the lack of GPs, nurses and paramedics as well as psychiatrists, speech pathologists, physiotherapists and mental health workers. People die through the distances that have to be travelled to find the care they need.
I adhere to The Four Pillars of the Greens Party Movement, Grassroots Participatory Democracy, Ecological Sustainability, Peace and Non-violence and Social Justice for all. I bring these principals to Council. I am co-convenor of the local Glen Innes Region Greens group and have the support of the members for this nomination. I am a friend of the Ngarrabal people of this land and support reconciliation and a Treaty with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
