My Journey to the Greens

Ludovico Fabiano, Waverley Greens Councillor since 2021

Ludovico Fabiano is a committed community advocate and Greens Councillor on Waverley Council. Ludovico is driven by a strong belief that local government can and should play a meaningful role in improving people’s everyday lives. His journey into public office began not with party politics, but with a deep connection to his local community and a desire to make a practical difference where he lives.

Like many residents, Ludovico became increasingly engaged in local issues—ranging from public amenity and environmental protection, to transparency in decision-making. This growing interest led him to run for Waverley Council as an independent candidate. While that campaign was grounded in a genuine commitment to the community, it also became a turning point that shaped his future in public life.

During this time, Ludovico engaged with Greens, including John Kaye, David Shoebridge, and local Waverley Greens member Chris Malby. These conversations proved influential, offering insight into the Greens’ policy platform and approach to governance—particularly their emphasis on environmental sustainability, social justice, and community-led decision-making.

What resonated most strongly with Ludovico was the clear alignment between his personal values and those of the Greens. Issues he already cared deeply about—protecting the environment, strengthening government accountability, and ensuring that community voices are genuinely heard—were central to the Greens’ agenda. Joining the Waverley Greens provided an opportunity to be part of a broader movement with shared principles and the capacity to deliver meaningful outcomes.

Beyond local issues, Ludovico has also been guided by a strong humanitarian perspective. He has publicly expressed concern for civilian lives on both sides of the Gaza and Israel border, advocating for compassion, de-escalation, and the protection of innocent people regardless of nationality or background. This position, while reflecting his personal values, became a point of political contention and ultimately led to his removal as Deputy Mayor in 2023.

Despite this, Ludovico has remained committed to principled leadership and community representation. His election as a Greens Councillor reflects a journey from engaged local resident, to independent candidate, to a representative working collaboratively within a values-driven political framework.

As a Councillor, he continues to focus on the same core motivation that first inspired him to step forward: making a positive and lasting difference in the community he calls home.
