Virginia Waters

Candidate for Lismore

Passionate advocate for the whole community, long term local, promoter of participation and encouraging involvement, inclusive communicator, parent and nature lover!

My name is Virginia Waters, I am a long term Nimbin local, parent and love living in one of the most diverse and magnificent natural places in the world. I’m passionate about representing Nimbin, our villages and Lismore on the Council. My focus is on making climate-conscious decisions, championing ecological best practices, and ensuring community well-being. With my extensive local experience in community services, events, and tourism, including managing projects in response to natural disasters since the 2019 fires, I am dedicated to our community’s resilience.
I envision a future where our community flourishes through innovation and active participation. We are a vibrant, diverse community, and I'm committed to nurturing that vibrancy, bringing our community together, and fostering a safe and supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
I stand in solidarity with our First Nations, flood-affected, and vulnerable communities, prioritising listening, advocacy, and building capacity to ensure everyone feels included, connected, and empowered to heal and grow. Compassion is at the heart of my approach and would guide my decision-making in the Council chamber.
Drawing on my experience employed at Lismore City Council, I understand the inner workings of council processes and the importance of a healthy workplace culture. I’ll work to keep essential council services within our community, advocating for transparent governance, increased biodiversity, and environmentally sustainable practices, including nature-based flood mitigation and affordable housing solutions.
As the manager of the Lismore Lantern Parade and with my current roles in community support and project management, I’ve built strong connections and fostered inclusivity. I bring a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to community engagement, disaster preparedness, and project management.
I am eager to serve as your representative and to contribute positively to our council, advocating for a future that’s collaborative, transparent, sustainable, and resilient. Together, we can build a brighter tomorrow for our community.
