Adapting to climate change has topped the issues people want Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (QPRC) to focus on in coming years.

Climate adaption (6.4%) was followed by roads and parking (6%) and aged and disability services (5%).

These are some of the findings from the Towards 2042 community engagement report, released by QPRC on 29 November.

Our natural environment was ranked as the top feature (14.8%) that made this a great place to live whilemore parks and green spaces took first place in ideas to enhance the region.

Environmental sustainability was nominated as the key challenge facing the community (13.4% of respondents).

Around 1,730 people participated in the consultation. One in four of them lived in Bungendore or Braidwood. Of the smaller communities, Captains Flat stands at, with residents of the town accounting for one in 20 respondents.

The council elected on 4 December will draw on the report to set priorities including for funding during the council’s term.
