Jane Oakley, 2021 Greens candidate for Lake Macquarie, West Ward

I am excited to be the Greens candidate for Lake Macquarie City’s North Ward.  Community involvement has always been important to me – I have volunteered on various committees including our school’s P&C, the kids’ soccer clubs, and community gardens.  I started my own charity, which I ran for five years collecting football boots to “Boot Them On” so others who couldn’t afford to buy boots could still play the beautiful game.

My family have lived in Lake Macquarie since 2008 with our three sons attending local public schools.  My partner Andrew and I own and operate two home-based small businesses, which has provided the flexibility to engage with community activities and school events.

Like many families our boys have played sports since under 6s, which has given me a real appreciation for the need for quality sporting facilities across the city so that all families can benefit from organized community sport.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management (UNSW) and have a keen interest in the health of our beautiful lake.  Learning about climate change years ago, and seeing so little action to address it, motivates me to do as much as I can to rescue our future from the terrible consequences of a heating atmosphere. We must turn our economy to one that benefits families by adopting the Green New Deal which would see massive investment and action to build a clean economy and a caring society.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can in the lead up to our council election and hope I can count on your support and your vote.
