We need Affordable Housing

The Hills Shire Housing report from 2018 found a shortfall of 3300 affordable housing dwellings in our LGA. On top of this, as of the last Census there were 92 homeless people in the area. In the absence of state government action, our council needs to step up.

We will impose an Affordable Housing Contribution on new developments to help finance a Council Housing Fund. This fund will contribute to the construction of council-owned social housing with a goal of 100 new housing dwellings per year. This program is easily affordable if we prioritise it and Aboriginal Housing in particular must be prioritised in consultation with local First Nations communities.

Inclusionary zoning policies should be championed so that every new residential development includes a percentage of not-for-profit homes.
