Michelle Lowe

Candidate for Byron Shire Council

I am a Bundjalung woman from Baryugil, which is on Bundjalung country.

I am a long-time local (since 1995) of the Byron Shire and have raised my children here. I am a local High School teacher and I have a long history of social and environmental activism. I have been the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academic and cultural mentor and coordinator at Byron Bay High School for 10 years. As a teacher, and an academic, I am a highly competent researcher and can grasp concepts and ideas quickly.
I have been a Greens voter for all of my adult life and a Greens member since early 2023. I am committed to the long-term sustainability of the Byron Shire and deeply committed to supporting the solutions to the Climate Crisis.
I want to be a Greens Councillor as I am deeply concerned about the Climate Crisis, First Nations justice and the destruction of wild spaces that are habitat to vulnerable species. My priorities for the upcoming term of council are environmental protection for sensitive habitat, affordable housing and housing and health for Indigenous communities.
