Sue Wynn
Candidate for Central Coast Council - Budgewoi Ward
I believe the Central Coast needs a return to democracy and transparency in Council, so we can all live in an area that is sustainable, responsive to climate change, where people can afford housing and where local communities are resourced and supported to identify and work on projects that they know their neighbourhoods need
I live my values: we have recently built a sustainable house from hemp masonry, own an electric car, run an ethical hospitality business, and with my local community, Progress and our Community Garden Inc group, we have successfully applied for grants and support for local infrastructure. These projects range from a community garden, seats and historic signage around the Mannering Park area to working to return the retaining sea wall at the holiday park to a more natural and safely engineered solution.
My background and passion is education. I was a Mathematics teacher and then Senior Manager in Public Education for nearly 30 years, and in retirement have taught Ethics from Kindergarten to Year Six students.
I was the only Greens Councillor ever elected to the former Wyong Council, and while there I developed an intimate knowledge and understanding of how councils work, so I have the experience to ensure that the elected Councillors and Council staff can work together to get the best results for our beautiful region. After seven years of administration, it's this kind of governance know-how which will be important, otherwise Councillors will be unable to achieve their environmental, social and financial goals. While on Council, I completed the Board of Director's course, sat on the Governance Committee, and I hold a Cert IV in Financial Services.
I'm proud to run as a Greens candidate because I believe our region needs Councillors whose decisions are based on policies which are easily found, and which are grounded in our foundational principles of ecological sustainability, social justice, grassroots democracy and peaceful non-violence. Whether it's shared pathways, potholes or essential worker housing, rubbish collection or the protection of natural habitat, my Greens philosophy will always put people first.
