Mike Augee

Candidate for Dubbo Regional Council

I'm Mike Augee and I'm standing for the Greens for Dubbo Regional Council to bring fresh energy and ideas to issues faced by Dubbo, Wellington and the whole local government area.

There are many environmental and social justice issues that Council is dealing with inadequately or just not addressing.
In terms of social justice and community, we need to tackle the perceived problem of juvenile crime at its base, by providing more youth activities and establishing a Youth Council.
We need to better support volunteer organisations that are providing essential community support, rather than bogging them down in unnecessary bureaucracy. This should involve a re-think of volunteer policies and better support for the arts to keep our creative community alive. Council's community consultation program needs to be fully effective, not simply an exercise in public relations and window-dressing. Clear outcomes must be the aim of every consultation that Council undertakes.
Ever-rising housing and rental costs have put many people in a very difficult position. Other Councils require developers to provide social and affordable housing as part of new developments, and Dubbo Regional Council should do the same.
Green Councillors across New South Wales have a widely recognised and well-deserved reputation for listening to and working hard for their constituents. I pledge to continue this tradition if elected and ask for your support to do so.
