Lindall Watson

Candidate for Lismore

I am a teacher, great listener, mum and local resident of Nimbin. I thrive on building respectful relationships and love a challenge.

My name is Lindall Watson I have been a regular visitor to the Lismore area and now, compelled by the extraordinary amenity enjoyed here, a recent resident.
At my core I believe in progressive leadership where we are able to look beyond the boundaries of singular experience and encompass diverse perspectives and solutions.
While understanding the complex and difficult nexus between community and government, I value community and the ability to identify concerns and needs for their future. I value the strength and capacity building that can be rallied when acting in unity over mutual concerns.
Throughout my professional experience as an educational leader and teacher I have successfully advocated for inclusive and accessible learning for all students. My passion for education has afforded me a range of teaching experiences, including teaching English, implementing special education initiatives and working alongside community elders in remote community schools of the Northern Territory. My PhD research into Values Education has given me a deep understanding of the important issues impacting young Australians.
As councillor I will commit to bringing a focus on the youth of our area as integral to the present and future planning and decision making for Lismore. Professionally, I am well placed to challenge and prompt our State Government counterparts to be more responsive to the needs of the young people in our region.
I always seek opportunities through embracing the adversities and challenges of life. I am acutely aware of the challenges that lie ahead for the Lismore region with escalating impacts of climate change. I pledge to lobby wholeheartedly for a collaborative approach in council and across all levels of government to build the critical infrastructure that helps to keep communities safe and to thrive not merely survive.
