Jenny McKinnon

Councillor for Wagga City Council

In the last term of Council, Jenny proved to be the only progressive voice for the community. Hers was the only vote for cat management, support for Gaza/Palestine, and management of synthetic turf playing fields. No other Councillor would second her motion on no gas in new subdivisions, so it wasn't even debated. Only one other Councillor supported her motion for Wagga to say no to nuclear.

Developers are having a field day in Wagga, as are the 'roads, rates, and rubbish' brigade.
Jenny is keen to expand the vision for Wagga as a great place to live, work, study and play, and to do that in a way that promotes essential environmental protections, cultural diversity, and a sustainable economy.
Jenny is a first-time Wagga City Councillor and has served a term as Deputy Mayor. She is proud and honoured to represent the Greens, especially as we are able to offer such an outstanding team of candidates for this election.
Jenny was delighted to receive unanimous support for her very first Council Motion, which was to make Wagga's community Net Zero Emission targets more ambitious. She followed that up with a recommendation to put more electric vehicle charging stations in Wagga, and the city now has five more EV charging stations.
The Greens have the strongest track record on climate action, supporting development that meets the needs of future communities, and diversity and inclusion. If re-elected to Council, Jenny will continue to fight for retention of native vegetation and increases to tree canopy coverage, as well as actions aimed at improving the livability of Wagga city and villages.
She is still awaiting the outcome of her Motion requesting a report from staff on what Council assets could be used to help meet the need for more housing in Wagga.

    Tackling the Housing Crisis

The housing crisis is breaking people, and governments at all levels are tinkering around the edges instead of making the big changes we need to address housing affordability.
