Michael Jones

Candidate for Kempsey

Hi I'm Michael Jones. I've lived on the mid-north coast for 30 years. I'm passionate about the beautiful natural areas of our region and want to protect our landscape and waterways for future generations.

As a resident of Grassy Head I can represent the outlying communities of Grassy Head, Stuarts Point and Fishermans Reach which sometimes get overlooked in favour of the larger townships. I want to focus on improving the lives of locals instead of allowing developers to take over.
I'm a qualified ecologist and have worked on projects that include mapping and planning for natural reserves in NSW and the Northern Territory, worked with landholders in weed control. I was instrumental in the creation of Yarriabini National Park and I co-founded the North Coast Renewable Association. Also having worked in community services and in my role of local radio presenter I feel I have a wide experience and can interact with all residents.
This year I am teaching Conservation and Ecosystem Management at Kempsey TAFE, sharing my knowledge and passion for our natural coastal resources.
We have plans to build a fairer, healthier future for Kempsey Shire and to involve local residents in decision making.
I would like to see the natural appeal of the mid north coast maintained while encouraging new land use activities that will support the economy in a sustainable way. For instance, I think there is enormous potential for fibre production and regenerative agriculture in the Kempsey Shire.
I will listen to the local community and act in your best interests and together we can build a fairer, healthier future for Kempsey Shire.

    OUR PLANS AND PRIORITIES

    Protect Grassy Head Picnic Area

    Protect Grassy Head Picnic Area

Residents enjoy the Grassy Head picnic area because of its low-key natural appeal. We strongly oppose Council’s plans to construct plastic and metal structures within the picnic area.

    Tackling the Housing Crisis

The housing crisis is breaking people, and governments at all levels are tinkering around the edges instead of making the big changes we need to address housing affordability.
