Vicki Taylor

Candidate for Kempsey

Hi, I'm Vicki Taylor, a proud Dunghutti woman, mother, and grandmother, and I am passionate about building a better future for our whole community.

Often our first nations voices are not heard or ignored. I will make sure that Kempsey council listens to and considers our local indigenous communities.
I am running for Council because I have the skills and experience to make positive change. Together we can create a safe and supportive community.
My family connection to this country goes back thousands of years. I was born in Sydney and moved to Kempsey as a young child. Our family moved to Newcastle where I finished my schooling. I returned to Kempsey as a young adult, and I raised my family here.
I worked in local schools and trained in Early Childhood Education in the mid-90's and started working at Dalaigur and Scribbly Gum Preschools. I won the 2023 Community Reconciliation Award from the University of Newcastle.
I am dedicated to promoting Dunghutti language to all and committed to fostering unity and equality. It is essential that First Nations children develop a strong identity and sense of belonging, and non-indigenous children develop respect and appreciation of Dunghutti culture.
I'll represent our community's values in Council and work constructively for a more united and respectful community.

    Protect Grassy Head Picnic Area

    Protect Grassy Head Picnic Area

Residents enjoy the Grassy Head picnic area because of its low-key natural appeal. We strongly oppose Council’s plans to construct plastic and metal structures within the picnic area.

    Tackling the Housing Crisis

The housing crisis is breaking people, and governments at all levels are tinkering around the edges instead of making the big changes we need to address housing affordability.
